SUNDAY MARKET LOVE
We love supporting local! Look no further than the mighty Stratford Sunday Market for your weekly premium, grocery household staples and special treats this summer. The Sunday Market is a wonderful way to support local, get to know some amazing vendors – great local growers, brewers, bakers, and makers – some of whom are also Stratford Chefs School Alumni!
Downie Street Bakehouse is a long-time vendor at the Sunday Market, and proprietor Alan Mailloux is a Chefs School Alumnus (Class of 1992). Alan’s bread bakery features from-scratch, long-fermented sourdough and specialty breads made with time and care. Good, honest Canadian ingredients are baked into breads with flavour, that also happen to be good for you!
SCS Alumna Erin Negus (Class of 2014) owns and operates Alchemy Bake Shoppe, a market favourite for delicious hand-made from scratch savoury and sweet baked goods. Her work is largely characterized as whimsical, nostalgic and over the top. In the off-season, Chef Erin is a Level One Pastry Instructor at the Stratford Chefs School.
New to the Sunday market this season is Rogers Ranch, run by farmer Dave Rogers, an Alumnus of Stratford Chefs School’s Class of 2010. Graduating from Chefs School and working in many local restaurants and butcher shops inspired Dave to pursue his childhood dream to become a farmer. Dave raises grass fed, grass finished beef naturally and sustainably. Perfect for grilling season!
This Sunday, June 18 is the Market’s 2nd Annual Strawberry Social, a kick-off to the berry season with Strawberry farmers, and strawberry-infused goodies from some of the market vendors. There will be a Strawberry Dessert Competition with scrumptious goodies made by vendors and community members, a delicious competition which will raise money for 4H Canada. There will also be kids activities, a colouring contest, and more. Celebrate Father’s Day at the Market alongside this magnificent Ontario berry!
See you at Market Square, Stratford | Sundays 10 am – 2 pm

Chef Instructor: ELI SILVERTHORNE
“When I decided to be a chef, I made it a goal to pick the best culinary school in the country to build a solid foundation. I chose the Stratford Chefs School, mostly for its reputation for producing talent, for its intense training program, and for the intimate student – teacher ratio. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am in my career without the connections I made and the skills that I learned there.”
Carl Heinrich | Executive Chef and Co-owner, Richmond Station, Toronto | Stratford Chefs School Class of 2005 | Top Chef Canada 2012
“The Stratford Chefs School provides the training to create world-class chefs who are comfortable working in any kitchen environment. Its immersive, approachable, interactive curriculum provided me with the tools and confidence that I needed early on in my career to make the transition from the school setting to the workforce. Perhaps most important to me are the lasting friendships that were made, the ongoing support from the SCS community, and exciting collaborations with other alumni.”
Alondra Galvez | Owner/Chef, El Cactus Taco Shop | Stratford Chefs School Class of 2003
“At the Chefs School, I was given the opportunity to challenge myself, and expand the limits of my culinary skill and knowledge. SCS gave me the ability to trust in my own skill and allowed me to expand my knowledge. Now I confidently pass that skill and knowledge to my students.”
Mel Athulathmudali | Teacher, Strata Montessori | Owner, Chef Mel Catering | Stratford Chefs School Class of 2016
